The Seed Blog: The Seven Feasts of the Lord, Part 2

The first Three Feasts were the Spring Feasts—in the beginning of the new year, fulfilled by Jesus as He brought in the ‘Beginning of a New Covenant.’

The Fourth Feast: Feast of Weeks/Pentecost (Lev. 23:15-21) Takes place 50 days after celebration of First Fruits, is a celebration of the Israelites marking the end of one agricultural season and the beginning of another, celebrated as the day Moses brought the 10 Commandments down from Mt. Sinai (Exod. 24:12, 17)- but when Moses came down with the  Commandments- the people were partying (Exod. 32:15-16, 27-28)- that day, 1300 years later: Acts 2:1-4, 41; Comparison:  Then: God came as Devouring Fire- Later: Spirit came as Tongues of Fire; Then: Moses (man) went up to God- Later: God (Holy Spirit) came down to man; Then: God spoke to man- Later: God spoke through man; Then: God gave the Law on stone to establish First Covenant- Later: God gave Spirit in our hearts to establish Second Covenant of Grace; Then: 3000 died at judgment of Law of God- Later: 3000 saved at mercy & power of Spirit; Note: Lev. 23:17: these loaves were made with leaven- representing man, not God- symbolizing what He established on Second Pentecost His Church- made up of Jew and Gentile- making ONE in the Spirit that came at Pentecost!  Rom. 7:7-11- God gave His Law that day to show us we had faults- sent Christ to die in our place so now we are dead to that Law and we are worthy of Him! The Holy Spirit came that exact day the Law was given to show it now had no hold on us and He dwelt in us. Each Feast so far has foreshadowed a major event, occurring on that very date, later in history. Colossians 2:16-17. What kind of confidence, awe, and expectation does that give you for the three Feasts that have seen no fulfillment yet? And if four have come, and three are yet to unfold; this gives you a powerful picture of exactly where we are living chronologically in His Plan today, in regards to God's timetable for the redemption of man.

The first four Feasts have already happened. They contain the entire Plan of Mankind’s Redemption—start to finish—in a prophetic illustration and detail; given to act out and ponder for 1400 years before their fulfillment. Scripture is clear that Christ will be bodily returning to this earth to take His followers Home on a given day in the future. Scripture is equally clear that no man can know when that day will be coming. And there are a number of Scriptural verses that could lead you to consider that Christ could come before the Anti-Christ comes to power and brings trouble and persecution to the believers in Christ for 7 years. And some, that could possibly mean, Jesus comes halfway through the 7 years, just before His Wrath is poured out. The next Feast seems to hint as to when Jesus will take us Home.

The Fifth Feast: Feast of Trumpets (Day of Shouting/Awakening Blast) (Num. 29:1; Lev. 23:23-25)- no real explanation of why to observe this Feast- just told to blow the trumpets (Shofar); celebrated on 2 days because no one knows the exact day it will occur (begins on new moon- difficult to determine).  Feast was on Sabbath- no work could be done: Israelites had to be prepared to abandon work- even if incomplete, at blow of trumpet.  Comparison: 1Thes.4:15-18: The Lord will descend with a Shout and Trumpet to take His people Home to be with Him in Praise and Worship.  No one knows when that day will come- therefore we must be ready (Matt.24:36-44)- and work undone is left forever at the Trumpet.  The Wedding of the Messiah (Feast of Trumpets in Jewish Literature)- Jesus shared a cup of wine with the disciples- signifying His proposal to His Bride (just as Kiddush is used as the proposal in Jewish Tradition)- He said he would not drink of the vine again until it was with them in the Kingdom of God (in Jewish culture- the Groom goes to his Father’s house to prepare a place for his bride) (John 14:2-3) (the Father would tell the son when to go get his bride (blowing the shofar in announcement)- when he would take her to the prepared bridal chamber for 7 days and their marriage would be consummated- at this time a second cup of wine was shared by the newly joined couple- symbolizing the sealing of the marriage- begun by the first cup offered at proposal).  Matt.26:27-39  Immediately following Feast of Trumpets is 7 day period (Days of Awe): the bride was taken away by groom for 7 days; at end of ages, the earth will go through a 7 year tribulation period: Jesus will return for His bride.
