According to modern definition, "Stay Salty" has a couple of definitions: 1)it is a derogatory term, sarcastically telling someone to continue to cry like an immature baby over something that is trivial (salty tears), 2)it means to live an adventurous, physically demanding lifestyle that keeps you continually covered in either sea salt, or salty sweat. And I think we all know what the modern definition of, "Get Lit" might entail. But, in one of the first sermons that Jesus ever publically taught, the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives a very different and powerful definition of what it means to, "Stay Salty and Get Lit" (Lake Gennesaret/Sea of Galilee): Matthew 5:13-17. What does Jesus mean by the comparison of our lives to salt and light? Never has it been more important for us to clearly understand these Words than today?

Church is a place where believers can gather together to worship God, support each other, love each other, and reach out to the world around them. Our Bible is full of references to the importance of gathering with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and the benefits. But many of us are casually absent from our churches. Today Pastor Doss asks us to seriously consider why, and to instead stay salty...and get lit. Listen to find out what he means.
Did God know there would be sin in the world. We see so much hatred, selfishness, and violence all around us. Have you ever honestly asked yourself, "Why would God allow some of the craziness, the horrible sin, the atrocities we see all around us, to exist in this world?" Have you ever wondered why He didn't just start over as soon as sin entered this world, rather than letting this happen?
There are songs about sacrificing for love. Poetry galore on the subjects. The theme is often seen on the stage or in the theater. But do we really mean it? Will we really do anything for love?
Today Pastor Doss tells us of one man who sacrificed everything for love, the impact it had on the world, and what our response should be. Have you ever had a moment in your life when you made a choice, that changed your life so much, or when your thoughts and your mindset changed so much because of an event, that your life was never the same after that moment? Ever have a time that you can almost view your life as the before and after of that moment? Have you ever said, "I wish I could go back to that moment, I would do things so differently?" "If I had chosen another direction that day, all of our lives would be completely different right now?" These moments are "Defining Moments" in your life.
Ever stop to think about what life would be like if you had made different choices? Decided not to go out on a date with the person who ended up becoming your spouse? Turned down a job offer instead of taking it? Gone to college instead of straight into the workforce? Or pursued a masters or doctorate degree?
Life is full of defining moments, those decisions that seem to alter your life in a major way. Today Pastor Doss asks us to consider how our past, and future, defining moments affect not only our physical lives, but our spiritual lives as well. |
