Envy and Jealousy: The distinction between the two is almost impossible to define. Psychology Today gives the contrast that most psychologists agree upon: "...Envy is a reaction to lacking something. Jealousy is a reaction to the threat of losing something." Although, even psychologists openly admit the two are so similar, so intertwined, and used so interchangeably, that they are almost synonymous in our culture. The root cause and effects, being pretty much the same as well, therefore, we may use these terms interchangeably throughout the lesson.

Your neighbor just bought a brand new car, and it is the car you always wanted.  Your co-worker just got the promotion you have been working towards for years, and they have only been with the company for a couple of years.  Your best friend just had baby number 2, while you have been praying for baby number 1 for more years than you care to count.  Or a couple friend of yours manages to go on a date together every week while you struggle to spend a few minutes a day alone with your spouse.

The list could go on and on.  There will always be something that someone else has that could tickle your jealousy bone and awaken it.  And yet those seeds of envy grow and wind their way into your heart, affecting relationships and choices that damage everything God wants for you.  Today Pastor Doss asks us to stop and take a look at ourselves.  Do you struggle with envy?  (You might be surprised at the answer!)  How is it affecting your life?  How can you stop it from rearing its ugly head?

Death will reveal so much about a person's true soul. Many people in this world have forfeited their faith and honor to prevent their own death, or the death of another. Some have forsaken their faith over the death of a loved one. Some live in constant fear and dread of death. Some are in a hurry to get there, because they think it will stop the pain or torment they are experiencing in this life. How we face death, how we feel about death truly reveals what we believe about God and His Word. "How we deal with death, is at least as important as how we deal with life, wouldn't you say?"
