All volunteers are bi-vocational and unpaid. We are here to serve through Loving God and Loving People.

"Bald" Pastor
​Doug Doss

  BIO:  Pastor Doug Doss comes to us from Danville, VA where he resided with his family until 2001. He has been a follower of Jesus Christ since 1988, ministering in various ways for almost 20 years. He has enjoyed serving wherever needed through the years in positions from bus driver, to usher, to deacon, to youth minister, to Sunday School teacher to pastor. He attended Danville Community College for two years, and transferred to Greensboro Bible Institute for an additional year. He and his family felt called to start this church in May of 2005. And with the wonderful support of a handful of close friends, through the calling and guidance of Christ - Word of Light Community Church was established.

He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Brenda, for over 25 wonderful years and has three sons: Douglas, Jr., Zachary, and Micah. They currently reside in Scott Depot. In addition to serving as pastor, Doug Doss also holds a full time position with Toyota.

research, studying God's Word and spending time with my family

Elder Jon Smith

Bio:   Jonathan has been a follower of the Lord since April 6, 1993. He was called into the  ministry, as an Evangelist in December 2006. He enjoys serving the Lord in many  capacities at Word of Light as well as in evangelism. He wants to continue to honor  and love God in every aspect of his life. 

Jonathan graduated from West Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. While attending college, he worked in the coal mining industry and continued there for 11 years. In February 1999, he went to work at Toyota Motor Manufacturing of WV, where he continues to work full time. 

He has been married to his beautiful wife, Traci since May 29, 1993. The Lord has blessed them with two great children Elena and Tank. They reside in Pliny, WV.

Vocation:  Quality Control

Elder Don Kinser

Bio: Don was saved 33 years ago at the age of 18. He grew up in a Methodist background but also has been involved in the Pentecostal, Apostolic, and Charismatic movements. Don has been with Pastor Doug even before he was a pastor, or even felt the call to be one. He has been with Word of Light Community Church since its inception and has the honor of serving as elder with Pastor Doug and four very Godly men. "I've grown to respect and love them very much and look forward to serving God with them."

Elder Jay Baisden

Bio: Jay Baisden began serving in churches by volunteering for over four years  with Campus Life, a division of Youth for Christ. Since those days, he has also ministered with Christian bands, church youth groups, and drama and dance ministries. Jay was raised in the church, but was led to Christ by his mother when he was young. In 2006, he joined Word of Light Community Church, and a year later worked with Rob Romine to start The FLOCK to minister to the teens God brings to the church.

Jay attended Marshall University, where he earned degrees in Economics and Computer Technology. He married his best friend, Carrie, in July 2010. They live in Huntington, where he works with the Cabell County Board of Education.

Hobbies: reading

Vocation: Coordinator of Information Systems

Youth Leader
Jason Garrett

Bio: Jason has been saved since 2005 and a youth leader since 2010. He is typically found in the A/V booth at Word of Light during Sunday services and leading the FLOCK on Wednesday nightsHe graduated from Marshall University and has two daughters with his wife Tracy.

Hobbies: Auto Racing, Theme Parks, All things Disney, Dad Jokes

Vocation: Computer System Engineer
