Today we are going to talk on one of the most controversial, divisive, and horrific practices of this nation's history in the eyes of our God: the act of abortion. Not with an anger or a judgment against those who have chosen to have one, or against those who have chosen to perform one—because in many circumstances, both have become traumatized and broken victims themselves—but with the loving, yet unapologetic decision to reveal the unparalleled evil this practice is truly seen as, in the eyes of God, and why it is wrong in every way in which it may be approached, or endeavored to be justified. Not to do so, would literally be a sin in a time when there have been approximately 61 million abortions in the U.S. alone, since Roe vs. Wade (1973). There have been approximately 1.5 billion worldwide since 1980. In 2014 (record low), almost 1 in 5 pregnancies in the U.S. were aborted. And according to the Guttmacher Institute (research arm of Planned Parenthood), only 1.5 % of these abortions are for rape and incest. Yet we see the 6 million Jews of the Holocaust, and rightly say barbaric, and we read of the thousands of children sacrificed to Baal and Moloch in Scriptures and become sickened. There are a number of areas of consideration for the argument and impact of abortion today—legal, medical, cultural, ethical, spiritual—and a few others as well. We will touch on several of these areas briefly in our study today. With almost 1 in 3 woman living today, choosing to have an abortion at some time in their lives, it is not only possible, but certain some here today have either had an abortion themselves, or have a close acquaintance or loved one who has done so. It is not my intent to bring pain or judgment on these people in any way. We have all sinned against God in our own ways, but that does not remove our absolute duty to our Holy God to trust His Wisdom, and speak His Truth about the horrors around us. How many times have we looked back in history and asked, "Where were the true Christians when this was happening?" "How could they just sit back and let this happen around them?" Well my friends, here and now is when history will say that about US, if we don't speak out for those who cannot defend themselves. So, whatever your views, whatever your emotions already in this discussion today, please simply listen with an open mind until the end.
One of the obvious main arguments for abortion, is that we are not taking a life, but undergoing a medical procedure. So, obviously the debate becomes "When does a fetus actually become a human?" To speak on strictly medical terms, a baby has all of his/her internal organs at 12 weeks. At just 16 weeks in the second trimester: the baby already has his/her individual fingerprints, his/her heart is already pumping 25qts of blood a day, is inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, their eyes are functioning, and eyelids blinking, the gender is determined and formed, the urinary tract is fully functioning, the baby is moving, sucking their thumb, making facial expressions. Why do we even have a question that we are talking about an individual, functioning human baby? Doctors have now determined that a baby can survive outside the womb as early as 22 weeks. And in addition to all of this, strictly, medically speaking, we now know that at the moment of conception, a baby has unique, independent and unrepeatable DNA. He/she already has everything that makes them into a separate and unique person with an entire life ahead of them at that moment. Doctor Seuss was right: "A person's a person, no matter how small." It is sad and sickening that in a time of technology which reveals these truths, some will still attempt to claim this is not an individual. Even down to the moment of birth. (Dr. Anthony Levatino, Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB GYN) Specialist). But, what is even countless times worse is someone with the understanding of God's Word, and supposedly God's love, agreeing with this stance, and supporting the horrid taking of the most innocent of lives. See this recent action taken by over 150 pastors and leaders in Tennessee just a couple of weeks ago: (Almost every major denomination) Informed? Tremendous reflection? Many are totally uninformed, misinformed scared teens. Even Planned Parenthood reports the overwhelming reasons listed for abortion fall under the category of inconvenience. I would say that it is not fair or wise to "trust" the entire population with deciding when another precious human being gets to live or die. Since when is that in any way a right to the masses? And please listen to the sickening, twists of Truth being used to propagate abortion literally from the pulpits of the churches of America. ("The Morality of Abortion", by Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper, of Judson Baptist church). Psalm 139:13-17: Can you please tell me how a proclaiming child of God, especially one who is in leadership of a flock, would say it is acceptable to murder a soul created in the image of God Himself! By the Hand of God? A "Fearfully and Wonderfully" made creation of God, who was worth the spilled Blood of His very Son, and call it nothing more than a medical technology equivalent to a Tonsillectomy procedure? And have the nerve to even call the choice, "holy?" And have the twisted evil to call out other followers of Jesus Christ for defending against this murder? God have mercy on us! Would that mean that Jesus Christ, while in the womb of Mary, as the Eternal Creator of the Universe, was of no more worth than a Tonsillectomy? Luke 1:30-31; Matthew 1:20. Christians are often called hypocrites—and we often are—but let me tell you about the greatest hypocrisy you'll ever witness. We as a society show great passion in condemning the dehumanization of entire groups of people in slavery, (as we should); the dehumanizing of entire groups of people in prejudice and hatred due to race (as we should); the dehumanizing horrors of what was done to 6 million Jews in WWII—all of these horrid crimes against mankind were possible because unaffected groups of people decided they were not to be considered human (decided they were not worthy of rights, of life), giving them justification to enslave and even kill others. If these acts are condemned by our society today with extreme malice (as they should be)—how much more should the exact same principles be applied to those who are completely innocent and helpless—who are suffering right in front of us? Who are being labeled as, "not human" today, just as those people? And being killed in even more barbaric ways by the tens of millions (over a billion) for the pleasure and convenience of those killing them, just as was the case in the past. And in a culture that screams, "Why can't you just love me the way I am?", how can we say to another, "You are not worthy to be loved?" Why? Because self taints the view of reality, and because, just as in the past, the opinion of the masses influences us to accept the unacceptable without resistance. When you begin to talk of how our freedoms should give women the right to choose: 1) the right to choose comes before the pregnancy occurs 2) take in every word here: "It is not an infringement on my rights, to take away my ability to kill another innocent human being put into peril by my own actions." To show how hypocritical that thought really is, even within our existing laws: did you know that according to Common Law, there is a law called "Duty To rescue"? A person is under a duty, and can be held legally liable, for not saving the life of another person if they 1) created the peril due to their own actions or negligence. 2) if the defendant has a special relationship with the endangered, such as parent, employer-employee, school-student relation, or guardian. Based upon this Law alone, can you not see the unfairness and hypocrisy in our decision to allow the killing of an innocent baby 2hich we put into peril with our own actions, and with whom we have a special relationship? And when the argument is used that it should still be the woman's right because the baby is completely dependent upon her for life—therefore a burden to her, and not truly an independent person worthy of rights—how can you possibly see that as any different from a two year old, who is a burden to the mother and dependent upon her for life? Or a handicapped person for the entirety of their whole life? Or an elderly person who can no longer sustain themselves? With this mentality that we have created as a culture, will we consider these groups of people as also expendable? Other cultures have done so by the masses—using the same justification—and we have called them evil and barbaric. Abortion is done in private, without anyone having to face the horrors that are occurring, and the body parts are piled up, stored away, and eventually incinerated or destroyed, while everyone unaffected looks the other way. Can you consider just how much that sounds like something that happened in Nazi Germany, not too many years ago? A fact that is just as heartbreaking is that many, many of those choosing to receive an abortion are young, scared, and misinformed victims themselves—completely misguided by lies, propaganda, and money-hungry agencies—only to come to a realization later in life, of what has truly happened, and having to live with the pain for a lifetime. That is why it is our job to be sure they know the Truth of the madness that has swept this nation, and the world. Why not let it be an individual decision, instead of fighting to make it law? Instead of intervening? Because it causes millions of innocent people to die every year, that are supposed to be protected under the law. Because it is surrounded by half-truths and outright lies that destroy the lives of those left behind as well. Because it is taking this entire culture to a horrible place of continuing evils in the same direction. Don't you dare condemn those who lived in Nazi Germany; don't you dare say another word about abusing others in slavery from the past; don't you dare say you would have acted differently, or resisted the evils of the day—if you can agree with the atrocities we are facing in this culture. If you can sit quietly by as those around you support, and even ignorantly participate in something even worse in our time. And if you for one second, need to ask as a Christian today, "What should my decision be on the matter?" Let me make it easy for you: You don't have a decision; you don't have a choice. You are compelled by the Law of Love [The Law of Jesus Christ—the One Who gave His life for yours, even when you weren't innocent] to protect and provide for the abandoned and helpless: Proverbs 31:8-9. You are commanded to honor those literally made in the image of the God you say you love and worship: Genesis 9:6; You are commanded not to take innocent life: Proverbs 6:16-17; Deuteronomy 27:25; You are commanded to be the Light for the rest of the world to see down the correct path, to be the Salt that heals and preserves a society that is sick with sin, and in pain from their own misguided choices. Jesus spent much of His ministry defending those that society rejected and discarded; helping those who were helpless, and giving His life to save others. Why do you even have to consider your answer to abortion? How can anyone proclaiming Christ question their responsibility? How can we even remain passive and silent? And if you have ever had, or participated, in an abortion, understand that it is a sin like any other, and forgiveness and total restoration is bought by His Blood. Remember David committed adultery and took innocent life, and He will one day be Prince of New Jerusalem. Confess, repent, and completely accept His forgiveness, love and acceptance.
